Dental Implants

A dental implant is a biocompatible device that is used to substitute a missing tooth or to serve as an anchor for dentures. The implant comprises of a metal screw that is embedded into the jawbone where it acts as an artificial root. The post is made of titanium, a metal that is used in numerous other types of prosthetics too, including artificial joints. In implant supported bridges and dentures, the implant supports as an anchor to keep the denture or bridge firmly in place. When replacing a single tooth, implant abutment is placed on the implant and serves as a connector for a dental crown.

Implants are often not noticeable except when seen on x-rays. They feel and function like natural teeth. The color, shape, and size of each new tooth will be created to match the neighbouring teeth. Dental implants can deliver patients with a more attractive smile, replacing missing teeth, unhealthy teeth, or teeth that have broken down due to trauma. Implants are highly customizable so individual results may vary.
